Abstract:
In this short course I will talk about some recent progress in non-integer base expansions and some applications. As a natural extension of decimal expansions of numbers, the non-integer base expansions can be dated back to the pioneering works of Renyi (1957) and Parry (1960). After almost 30 years of silence, Erdos et al (1990) reinvestigated this topic from a combinatorial aspect, and afterwards it got a great attention from many branches of mathematics. Recently, this topic is getting more popular as its intimate connection with Bernoulli convolutions.
